About LATS
HISTORY OF THE SEMINARY
| The Latin American Theological Seminary (LATS) was founded in 1975 due to the initiative of Dr. Jesse Miranda and other ministers that realized the need of Hispanic pastors and lay leaders to further their education in order to better fulfill the Great Commission. They realized that a great number of Hispanic ministers who graduated from Bible institutes were engaged in full-time ministry and were unable to continue their theological studies. LATS was established to respond to this need, that is, to enrich and update the minister’s knowledge through the study of the Word of God at a higher level. From its beginnings, the seminary’s extensions have been organized throughout the Hispanic Districts of the Assemblies of God in the United States and throughout several Latin American countries. LATS has served a vast number of pastors, evangelists, missionaries, and lay leaders who have graduated at the Bible institute level. After being in active ministry for several years, these ministers now have the opportunity to obtain a bachelors degree in theology. In addition, this seminary has also played a key role not only in preparing, but also in inspiring Hispanic students to continue their studies at institutions of higher learning such as Vanguard University, Azusa Pacific University, and Fuller Theological Seminary. |

PHILOSOPHY and PURPOSE
| The Latin American Theological Seminary exists primarily to equip the Hispanic minister in his or her context through a Pentecostal tradition. This method of study affords those ministers who are already committed with the work of God, and who would otherwise not be able to study, the opportunity to further their education. |

OBJECTIVES
| To promote excellence among ministers in applying Scriptural knowledge to human needs as found within the ministers’ social environments. To create an environment that is conducive to the learning process and to research. Emphasize the development of effective communication in a multicultural context. To stimulate students to serve their congregations with pertinence, as they take the socio-cultural development of their communities into account. To provide effective training and a Pentecostal focus for the better care of congregations; specifically for those who are related to the Hispanic culture. |

EDUCATIONAL GOALS
| Through its Bachelor of Theology program, the Latin American Theological Seminary seeks to equip its students in the areas of academics and practical ministry. LATS seeks to prepare students to read widely from all areas of theology, and from subjects that are relevant to ministry. LATS also seeks to equip students with research skills that will allow them to conduct research in the areas of theology and ministry at the bachelor’s level. Furthermore, LATS seeks to prepare students to be competent writers that have the ability to compose research papers and sermons, as well as other materials relevant to theology and ministry at a bachelor’s level. Moreover, LATS seeks to train its students to think deeply concerning theology, Bible, and ministry, and to be able to apply theory to practice. And LATS seeks to train its students how to conduct a proper exegesis of a Biblical text so as to be able to incorporate it into a sermon. And lastly, LATS seeks to equip its students with the necessary skills to be effective in ministry within the ever-changing context of the twenty-first century. |
