The Need: Hispanic college enrollment and graduation rates are some of the faster growing segments in higher education. This trend is also echoed throughout many Christian colleges and universities. Over the last decade, just a few evangelical universities have “finally” reached the Hispanic Serving Institution’s (HSI) requirement of 25% or more Hispanic undergraduates. Some of the recent HSI designations in California include: Fresno Pacific (Fresno), California Baptist (Riverside), and Vanguard University (Costa Mesa); while many more are hoping to achieve this objective, and pursue major federal funding through these programs. As of 2017, there is no national association that addresses the overall needs of Hispanic Christian higher education, particularly with and for private Christian colleges and universities.

Purpose: Established in 1926, LABI College is the oldest Hispanic Bible College in the United States. As such, LABI is well-suited to launch HACHE’s objectives. Through educational trainings, publications, grant-guidance, faculty recruitment and retention strategies, technical translations, advocacy, and other resources, HACHE aims to provide the necessary advantage and support to Christian institutions who want to cultivate a strategic educational environment to better attract and serve the Hispanic community.
Leadership: HACHE’s president, Dr. Marty Harris is well suited to lead and launch the new association. Dr. Harris is a fellow of the American Psychological Association (MFP), registered consultant with the U.S. Department of Education, U.S. Department of Justice, and SAMHSA. Dr. Harris is also an ordained minister with the Southern Pacific District of the Assemblies of God. A prolific federal and foundation grant writer, Dr. Harris has also served in leadership roles at several Christian institutions, including currently as President of LABI College. Dr. Harris has also recruited several leaders/scholars committed to serve on the HACHE Commission. These include faculty and/or administrators from Fuller Theological Seminary, Azusa Pacific University, Vanguard University, LABI College, and Latin American Theological Seminary. Please stay tuned, in the coming months, HACHE will be sending out to its membership base, informational updates and reports on our progress.
Mission Statement: “To serve and support Christian institutions of higher learning and to promote educational quality, access, and opportunity with and for the Hispanic community.”
Membership: Membership for individuals, pastors, faculty, staff, or students is free. If you are interested in HACHE membership or for more information: Please send an email with your name, institutional affiliation, and contact information to Dr. Marty Harris: mharris@labi.edu
Blessings,
Marty Harris, PhD President, LABI College, LATS, & HACHE
