Rev. Melendres is a 1958 graduate of LABI, Texas. His ministry spans over 40 years within the states of Colorado and California. While in the Central District of the Assemblies of God, Brother Simon served as the Pastor of Julesburg, Colorado and as the President of the Christ Ambassadors ( now known as Youth Director) until 1960.
In 1960, Rev. Simon and his family moved to California . Between the year 1960 to 1971, when the Southern Pacific District was known as Latin |American Assemblies of God in California, Brother Simon took on various ministry positions which includes the pastor ship in Compton, California, Christian Education Director and District Presbyter for the Los Angeles Section; Professor at LABI during Rev. Theodore Bueno’s tenure as Superintendent and member of the Board of Trustees of the school. In 1965, he graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree from Southern California College, (now Vanguard University) and studied Spanish at Cal State University.
In 1972, Rev. Melendres and his family moved back to the Central District and pastored in Denver, and Greely, Colorado until 1983.
In December of 1983, The Melendres family once again moved back to California. Brother Simon’s first pastorate was in Buenas Nuevas Church in Norwalk, California. In 1987, Brother Melendres was appointed the President of the Latin Americana Bible Institute in La Puente, California and served from 1987 to 1999. It was during this time that he earned a Masters of Arts in Religion from Azusa Pacific University in 1995.
Rev. Melendres presently serves as the Senior pastor at Templo Roca Firme in Riverside, California and is an Honorary Presbyter for Section 2 of the Southern Pacific District.
On May 16, 2015 Reverend Melendres was conferred the honorary Doctor of Divinty degree from LABI.
